#25 - Ceiling

The long awaited ceiling... I had stared at this for months, wondering whether 1/4" plywood would have enough flexibility to contour to the odd roof shape, or if I would have to use some other vinyl type material. I had some leftover 1/4" scrap, and so I began by fastening it to the ribs as a test. It held fairly well, and so I picked up a clean sheet from Home Depot and began cutting it to fit.

Cutting all lumber/ plywood on my balcony has been a pain, but I managed. ha

The rear ceiling ribs only extended part way, so I had to get creative. I cut these supports (4) to reduce the strain on the unsupported section, but once I got the sides in and caulked, I reduced the supports to the (2) in the center. You'll continue to see these in the later photos.

Several of the cuts I had to widen in order to squeeze/ bend the boards between the frame, walls, cabinets, etc. I'll have to fill these gaps in later.

With the ceiling in, I then started on the small cavities just below it. I used scrap wood for this, as it is out of the way and presumably won't be as visible or see the same abuse as the ceiling.

While I have a lot of caulking and painting left, this was a huge step in concealing the insulation and fiberglass roof. I really felt like I could start to see the van's finished product at this stage which was neat!
