With the facing of the cabinets decided (3/4" ply) I was finally able to work on the kitchen counter. A friend of mine gave me some leftover butcher block from their home renovation project, but I needed to know the depth of the facing before I mounted it for overhang requirements etc.
You can see I've also added the facing to the rest of the cabinets as well (the cabinet doors will come later)
The butcher block isn't quite long enough for my kitchen area, so I had to fill the gap with some other wood I found (old dresser). This will eventually be covered with tile or a vinyl/ laminate/ backsplash type material to separate it from the butcher block and look planned. ha
